Blue Bow Campaign – To Build Awareness For Child Abuse Prevention Month

Many organization use ribbons to encourage people to show their support for a cause. Ribbons have become symbols and colors represent various causes. If you are in need of ribbons in single color or a combination of different colors, visit

Blue ribbons will be tied around the campus of SIUE University Foundation to show their commitment for the nationally-known Blue Bow Campaign that marks April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. The blue ribbons are expected to create awareness for the Child Abuse Prevention Month by Children’s Home and Aid, a family-based service in Illinois. The blue color of the ribbons will represent the bruises of physical abuse that children suffer physically and emotionally.

According to Emma Christensen, this is the first year that the foundation will be observing Child Abuse Prevention Month because they want people to be aware that there are services available if they are in need of help. Many families live on campus and the university cares about these families. Sometimes, it is possible for people to be suffering from problems of abuse but they are not aware of available resources.

According to freshman nursing major Cassie Caldwell of Swansea, she plans to make a donation to support the cause. Junior mass communication major, Destiny Cantrell from Chicago assumed that the blue ribbons tied around trees were for the Autism Awareness Month which is also being honored in April. Knowing the true reason for the blue ribbons, Cantrell will consider volunteering for the sake of children.
Donations can help shelters that help children since there are few organizations that will extend their help for kids who will be involved. It would be a kind deed to volunteer and make donations.

According to Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Rachel Stack, her experience at Parents Anonymous, a hotline for parents has made Child Abuse Prevention Month as highly significant. The slogan that says “Asking for help is a sign for strength” has issues that require fixing. However, Blue Bow Campaign is a sort of public service where everyone is invited to contribute. It is similar to team building where students can participate.
